Paul Guzzo

Paul Guzzo is a fearless journalist whose career has woven an intricate tapestry of Tampa Bay life since 1999. With a sharp pen and a keen eye, Paul doesn’t just report the news—he unearths stories that pulse at the heart of a community, stories that linger long after the last word has been written.

His most notable achievement? Unearthing lost Zion Cemetery, a poignant burial ground for African Americans during the shadowy days of segregation, and then the other 10 discovered lost, erased and destroyed cemeteries throughout Tampa Bay. This discovery sent ripples through Tampa Bay and beyond, reigniting conversations about history, identity, and remembrance that demand attention.

But Paul is more than a historian. He’s a cultural cartographer, mapping the uncharted territories of Tampa’s eclectic film scene and the vibrant world of professional wrestling. Whether interviewing filmmakers behind the lens or wrestlers in the ring, Paul captures the essence of the bizarre and beautiful in Florida's cultural landscape.

Before journalism, Paul was an independent filmmaker, crafting stories that delve into the human condition. His award-winning documentary on Charlie Wall, Tampa’s first crime lord, highlights his ability to explore complex narratives that challenge morality and illuminate truths.

Through his work and personal life, Paul Guzzo demonstrates that every story—big or small, glorious or gritty—deserves to be told. His unmatched knowledge and resources surrounding Tampa’s buried Black cemeteries make him the intellectual property of UnRested. His expertise is a cornerstone of the series—an asset that would take years, if not decades, to replicate.

His work on the cemetery stories earned him the President’s Award from the local NAACP.
